Addo Elephant National Park

Addo Elephant National Park near Port Elizabeth is rated one of the best places in Africa to see elephants up close. It’s also South Africa’s third largest reserve with an enormous diversity of species and vegetation. The park is also home to buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino and in the marine section you will find great white sharks and southern right whales, which means that South Africa’s Addo is one of the few reserves in the world that can boast having the Big Seven!

Hole in the Wall, Wild Coast

The Hole in the Wall is a rocky archway set just off the Wild Coast, south of Coffee Bay in the Eastern Cape. The little holiday village close by shares the same name. This landmark was created millions of years ago through the restless action of waves against sandstone and shale.

Tsitsikamma Forest

Tsitsikamma stretches its distinctive yellowwood leaves skywards, towering over the other trees in the canopy. This tree is estimated to be between 600 and 800 years old, and is well worth a special visit. Fortunately some of these ancients have survived. In the Tsitsikamma Forest, near Plettenberg Bay, you can catch a glimpse of the majesty that once ruled the forests on a short walk to the big tree.

Valley of Desolation

Sheer cliffs and precariously balanced columns of Dolerite rise 120 metres from the valley floor, against the timeless backdrop of the vast plains of the Camdeboo. This is the product of volcanic and erosive forces of nature over 100 million years. This breathtaking site is a short 14 km drive from the town. Any visitor to the Camdeboo National Park will be surprised to discover the diversity of fauna and flora. There are over 220 recorded species of birdlife, 336 plants and 43 mammals. Catch a glimpse of the endangered Cape Mountain Zebra, plenty of Kudu, Buffalo, the majestic Black Eagle and the Kori Bustard, the heaviest flying bird in the world.
